Rifle Scope Reviews and Information Center

Rifle scopes have been around for decades. In fact, they were widely used during the Second World War. Their main purpose is to magnify a target, making it easier for one to make an accurate shot from a greater distance. In general, a scope has two main advantages: it allows one to hide from target and it enhances safety of shooter. It is also worth noting that it allows one to harness the power of modern rifles and cartridges.

Choosing rifle scopes used to be an easy task, however the technological advancements in scopes make this task much more difficult. Selecting a scope, whether for target shooting, general plinking, or hunting has become challenging, due to improved scope technology and optics.

To select the best scope it is important that you understand certain terms, such as bullet drop compensator, variable objective and parallax adjustment. It is also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the various scope manufacturers and their pricing. It is important to acquaint yourself with other related rifle scope accessories and their functions. Many shooters believe an expensive scope is better, although it will only work properly if the bases and rings are compatible. For example, certain range finders, spotting scopes and rings are interrelated and manufactured to work directly with the scope; while items, such as rangefinders are designed to function in conjunction with the scope.

Many people make the mistake of buying the most expensive scope, and then mounting it with cheap bases and rings. Even though the scope is high powered, it will be inaccurate if mounted with mismatched pieces. On this website you will find information on rifle scope basics, and reviews of some of the best scopes available today. Before purchasing any scope you must understand the objective lens diameter. It is the diameter of the front lens, and it also responsible for the amount of light that enters the scope. Always measured in millimeters, they usually range from 32mm to 75mm. When buying a lens, keep in mind that the bigger it is, the more it will weigh. Also, bigger lenses may require special rings and mounting bases.

Rifle scope reticles

are the cross patterns on the eyepiece, which show the position of the target. Reticals come in several variations, and range from the usual style crosshair pattern to illuminated dots. Choose a retical that suits your specific type of shooting. Many shooters prefer reticles without dots for hunting and long range shooting. Scope lens coatings are the layer of coating over the lens to prevent light from obstructing your view. They come in four types:
• Coated: A single layer of coating on the surface of one lens or more.
• Fully Coated: A single layer of coating on all glass surfaces.
• Multicoated: More than one coated layer on one lens surface or more.
• Fully Multicoated: Several coated layers on all glass surfaces.

Scope magnification

is the multiplication measurement, compared to your eye. It basically means that the magnification number is how many times bigger you can see your target. Some scopes are equipped with adjustable magnification. When choosing your scope’s power, select the one that suits your shooting needs. Selecting your scope can be confusing, since there are thousands of options available.

When you pick out your scope there are several different factors to consider, such as average target range, price, magnification, different retical pattern etc. Most modern hunters and target shooters depend heavily on rifle scopes for accurate shooting. They make it easier to stalk and shoot game from far without compromising accuracy. Furthermore, some scopes enhance light wavelengths to make targets clearer in near-dark conditions.

Some of the major rifle scope brands today include Nightforce, Burris, Leupold, and Vortex. Advanced and professional rifle scopes will help you to have a successful hunting outing. Fortunately, there are tons of scopes on the market. When choosing a scope always look for affordability and quality.  Always research your options before making a commitment to buy.

Leupold is one of the major manufacturers of rifle scopes sold in the US. One of its popular products is the Leupold VX-3 rifle scope that comes with tons of advanced technological features to make shooting a breeze. The most impressive of these features is the Xtended Twilight lens technology that works in a similar way to night vision goggles by amplifying light wavelengths to make targets appear crisper especially at dusk.

However, this does not mean that this technology will work well when it is completely dark. The manufacturer has used second generation and more refined argon/krypton gas technology to enhance this scope’s waterproof and thermal shock capability. In fact, the manufacturer guarantees that this piece of technology will remain functional throughout the Leupold VX-3’s lifetime.

While acquiring targets, the VX-3’s wide field of view and lockable fast-focus eyepiece will come in handy. Since most people use scopes while hunting or shooting targets in rugged outdoor environments, the Leupold VX-3 is durable enough to withstand the elements. For instance, the lens has a proprietary Abrasion-resistant DiamondCoat 2 coating that also improves light transmission.

To reduce glare and improve resolution when hunting under sunny conditions, the Leupold VX-3 comes with edge-blackened lenses. Other useful features include twin erector system for better long-distance shooting accuracy, multiple reticle options, and multiple elevation adjustment positions. Prices for this scope range from $400 to $1,100 depending on model.
